Chapter 1: Getting Started with Insight
Are you interested in contributing to Insight? If so, I appreciate your interest! At Insight, my goal is to streamline the process for applying, submitting articles, and providing feedback.
However, I have established a few guidelines that must be followed for article submissions.
This is an AI-Free Zone
While you are welcome to discuss AI topics or offer tips on using tools like ChatGPT or Midjourney, all content must be original and human-written. The presence of AI-generated articles can detract from the authenticity of our publication, so I am committed to maintaining the originality of ideas. Each submission will be carefully examined for AI content using both detection tools and personal judgment. Articles identified as containing AI-generated material will be rejected, along with an explanatory note.
Grammar and Quality Assurance
Although I will not reject submissions for grammatical errors, I strongly recommend proofreading your work. Tools like Grammarly can assist you in identifying and correcting mistakes. If there are any grammatical issues, I will correct them and provide feedback on the changes made.
Citing Sources
If your article references studies or includes citations, please ensure to provide the sources. Including links to these references is highly encouraged.
Images and Visuals
When including images in your articles, please attribute the source. The easiest way to access royalty-free images is through Medium’s integrated Unsplash feature. You may also consider Pexels for additional royalty-free options. For visual enhancement, tools like Canva can help you edit images for better appeal.
What Type of Content Are We Seeking?
We are open to any science-related topics. There are no strict limits on article length, but ideally, submissions should be around 700–800 words for a reading time of approximately four minutes. We cover various sections, including AI, Space, Technology, and Climate Change. Even if your article doesn’t fit neatly into these categories, it will still be archived and may appear on our latest or trending pages.
Advertising Policies
At Insight, we prefer not to clutter our publication with ads or affiliate marketing. Medium also discourages this practice and tends to avoid curating content that includes advertisements or solicitation for claps and follows. Therefore, such elements may be removed or lead to article rejection. If readers enjoy your work, they will engage without needing prompts. However, you may promote your book at the end of your article.
Feedback and Resubmission
If your article is declined, I will provide a note explaining the reason. You are welcome to revise and resubmit it. For minor issues, I may make the necessary corrections myself and leave comments for your reference.
Applying to Write for Insight
To join as a contributor, please share your Medium name and username (the part of the URL that follows your profile, e.g., @ArleyWrites). You can respond here with this information or send it via email to writesarley@gmail.com. Including a link to a previously published article that demonstrates your writing skills would be beneficial. No formal English degree is required—just a computer, ideas, and basic grammar skills.
Submitting Articles
Now that you understand the guidelines for joining Insight, let’s discuss how to submit your work. You can submit your article as either a draft or a finished piece. If submitting a draft, please ensure it is close to completion to avoid losing any content or making unexpected changes. To submit, click the three dots in the top-right corner of your draft and select ‘Add To Publication,’ then choose ‘Insight’ for review. If accepted, your article will be published directly in Insight.
Alternatively, you can submit a completed article. Once published, click the three dots on your article and select ‘Add To Publication’ followed by ‘Insight’ for review. Please note that I only accept articles submitted via Medium; Google Docs, Word documents, or pitches will not be considered. You can expect a response regarding your submission within a few days, though it may take up to a week depending on my workload.
Promotion of Your Work
Accepted articles will be promoted on Twitter to expand their reach. If you prefer not to have your work shared, just let me know. Feel free to share your articles on social media, ensuring to tag the author.
Any Inquiries?
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments or reach out via email (writesarley@gmail.com). Despite these guidelines, writing about what you love will shine through in your work and increase your chances of acceptance.
Thank You and Happy Writing!
